Follow these instructions to change a ProSeries standalone installation to a network installation. The steps below assume that the network is already set up and uses mapped drives.
Back up client files and program settings
Before beginning the installation to the network, back up your client files. The best option is to create a backup folder on the network drive, then use the Copy/Backup option in ProSeries to back up your client files to it:
-
To backup your client files, follow the instructions in
-
After the client files have been backed up, go to your desktop and double-click My Computer.
-
Double-click the ProwinXX folder (XX = the year of ProSeries you are installing. For example, for the Tax Year 2007 version, the folder will be named Prowin07).
-
Highlight the Common folder. This folder contains personalized settings, such as printing options and preparer information.
-
Go to the Edit menu and choose Copy.
-
Click the Back button twice to go back to the list of drives.
-
Double-click the network drive where you intend to install ProSeries.
-
Right-click the folder where you backed up the client files (for example, 2007 ProSeries Data) and click Paste.
Uninstall ProSeries on the standalone computer and install to the network
When installing the program, we suggest disabling your anti-virus software.
- Select the computer you want to be the administrative workstation for ProSeries. This workstation will have access to some options that the other workstations do not, such as the administrative options for the Access Rights feature.
-
Close all programs and go to your Windows Desktop.
-
Uninstall the program. Go to Start, point to All Programs, point to ProSeries XXXX (XXXX = the year of ProSeries you are removing, for example, ProSeries 2007), and choose Uninstall. Click Select All, then click Uninstall.
- Insert the ProSeries CD for the year of ProSeries you are installing. Use the Archive CD if it is available.
-
Go through the installation screens, choosing
Network for the installation type.
For the Tax Year 2004 and later versions: You will need to choose both a local installation folder (C:\ProwinXX), and a network installation folder (for example, T:\PronetXX). Refer to your network installation guide for detailed information.
For versions prior to Tax Year 2004: The entire program will be installed to the network, so you do not need to choose a local installation folder.
You will need a network installation access code for the Tax Year 2004 and prior versions. Network access codes can be obtained from the My ProSeries website using the
Product Licensing link (requires logging in to My ProSeries).
