ProSeries Frequently Asked Questions

Form 8801 May Not Calculate Correctly Under Certain Circumstances

Products Affected:

  • ProSeries/1040
  • ProSeries Basic/1040

Situation

When there is no data on Form 8801, Credit for Prior Year Minimum Tax - Individuals, Estates, and Trusts, line 28 calculates a zero which flows to line 21 of the Federal Carryover Worksheet.

When there are negative amounts on lines 50, 51 and 59 on Form 8801 these negative numbers should be entered as zeros, instead of negative amounts.

Solution

These situations were corrected in the Federal 1040 update that became available online on February 21, 2008. Download and install this update, if you have not already done so. (Go to the Update menu and select Update Installed Products.)
