ProSeries Frequently Asked Questions

Hawaii Sales Tax Deduction Calculates Incorrectly

Products Affected:

  • ProSeries/Hawaii Individual
  • ProSeries Basic/Hawaii Individual

Situation

The Hawaii sales tax deduction calculates incorrectly in the following scenarios:

Scenario 1

If the sales tax paid is greater than the state income tax withheld and the "General sales taxes" box is checked on the federal Schedule A, Itemized Deductions, the sales tax amount does not flow to Hawaii Form N-11, line 21b and the Itemized Deductions Worksheet, line 5b. The state income tax flows to Form N-11, line 21b and the Itemized Deductions Worksheet, line 5b.

Scenario 2

If the information is manually entered on the Hawaii Itemized Deductions Worksheet, it does not flow to Form N-11, line 21b. If the information is manuallly entered on Form N-11, line 21b, it is not added into the total on line 22. When previewing Form N-11 on the screen the values will display, but do not display on the printed Form N-11.

Scenario 3

If there was no state income tax withheld and the "General sales taxes" box is checked on the federal Schedule A, Itemized Deductions, the sales tax paid does not flow to Form N-11, line 21b and the Itemized Deductions Worksheet, line 5b.

Solution

This situation will be corrected in the Hawaii Individual update anticipated to be available online on or about February 22, 2008. Download and install this update when it becomes available. (Go to the Update menu and select Update Installed Products.)
