Kansas Schedule K-210, Line 1 Does Not Show the Exemption for Farmers and Fishermen

Products Affected:

  • ProSeries/Kansas Individual
  • ProSeries Basic/Kansas Individual

Situation
The Kansas Schedule K-210, Individual Underpayment of Estimated Taxes, does not show the exemption statement "Exempt, Farmer/Fisher" to the left of line 1. Farm income is entered on the federal Schedule F and is also marked that "at least 2/3 of your gross income was from farming or fishing in 2006 or 2007 and the return will be filed and all tax due will be paid by March 3, 2008."  The Kansas Information Worksheet, Part IV is also marked Yes for both the "Taxpayer was engaged in commercial farming or fishing in 2007" and "at least two-thirds of gross income derived from commercial farming or fishing."

Solution
If all the above information is entered and the exemption statement "Exempt, Farmer/Fisher" does not show to the left of line 1 on the Kansas Schedule K-210, then go to the Tax Payments Worksheet for Kansas and enter a date of 03/01/2008 (or earlier).  Kansas follows the same exception for farmers and fishermen not paying penalties if they file and pay early, however their date is two days before the federal date.

Tax Year: 2007
