District of Columbia (DC) Form D-40BS May Not Automatically Calculate

Situation

When the District of Columbia is a nonresident state for a MFJ return, Form D-40BS, Spouse SUB Nonresident Request for Refund, may not automatically calculate for a spouse when the taxpayer and spouse both have District of Columbia withholding from a Form W-2.

Workaround

Manually activate Form D-40BS:
  1. Open the District of Columbia tax return and go to Form D-40BS.
  2. Click the box at the top of the form for Spouse/partner.
