ProSeries Frequently Asked Questions

Edits Made to Client Advisor Do Not Save

Products Affected:

  • ProSeries Client Presentation
  • ProSeries Client Advisor

Situation

In the Client Presentation, edits made to the Client Advisor do not save when you save the file in Excel.

Solution

This situation is being resolved by our development team and will be corrected in a future release. Download and install this update when it becomes available.

Workaround (prior to update)

Until this situation is corrected in an update, you can manually make minor edits to the file in Microsoft Excel.

Open the Actual Client Presentation File in Microsoft Excel

  1. Open the Client Presentation via the ExcelPresentation.xls file. Go to the Windows taskbar and right-click on the Start button. Select Explore and navigate to the ExcelPresentation.xls file. The default directory for ProSeries is X:\ProWin07\Common (where X represents the drive where ProSeries is installed).
  2. Double-click the ExcelPresentation.xls file to open it in Excel.
  3. Select the Client Advisor tab in the spreadsheet.

Note: If the Client Advisor tab has generated advice in it for a client, close this file. Launch ProSeries and open a new client file. From the Tools menu, select Client Presentation and Restore Default Client Presentation. This will restore the default template. Close ProSeries and repeat steps one through three above.

Unhide Column E

  1. To Unhide Column E, highlight Columns D through F, right-click your mouse and select Unhide. You should now see Column E with the two variations of the introduction paragraphs and the thank you paragraph.

Note: Only edit the text in Column E, any edits to other areas such as Column A can result in formatting or other errors.

Make Edits to the Introduction Paragraphs and Thank You Paragraph

  1. Make your edits, following the editing guidelines below.
  2. Save the file.

Editing Guidelines

There are two introductory paragraphs and one thank you paragraph:

  • The introductory paragraph in Cell E1 is used for instances when recommendations are generated.
  • The introductory paragraph in Cell E3 is used for instances when no recommendations are generated.
  • The thank you (closing) paragraph is in Cell E6.

These cells are special "named" cells in the worksheet. To see these names, select the cell and look at the Name Box in the top left corner. Cell E1 is named “WithRecommendations,” Cell E3 is named "WithoutRecommendations,” and Cell E6 is names “CA_Closing_Line.”

In the introductory paragraphs, we strongly recommend that you only perform minor edits to the text and not expand the lengths of the introductory paragraphs too much. The reason is that the page formatting can get messed up resulting in certain text being outside the print area and thus not getting printed fully. If you expand the introductory paragraphs with extra text, you might have to adjust the row height for Cell 5A. An example of a minor edit is to change We to I.

In the thank you paragraph, we strongly recommend that you only perform minor edits to the text because unlike the introductory paragraphs, you cannot adjust the row height for Cell 7A. i.e. The thank you paragraph cannot span more than one line.

Notes:

  • Any edits outside the predefined cells will not be displayed in Client Advisor.
  • Any text below row four gets wiped out each time Client Advisor is generated.
  • You will not be able to view changes using the print preview in Excel. You will have to use the print preview in ProSeries to see the changes that you have made to Client Advisor. (Tools > Client Presentation > View Client Presentation in Excel.)
  • Editing Client Advisor is tricky. If you have any uncertainty about changes you’ve made to the file, use Restore Default Client Presentation in ProSeries and then try again to edit the file. Be very careful to only make edits to the introductory paragraphs or thank you paragraph.
