When you print a return, the required forms, schedules, and worksheets are printed according to specific rules. However, you can change the print conditions in the Filing Copy, Client Copy, and Preparer Copy columns of the Control Which Forms Print dialog box to designate whether you want specific forms to print if required, if any data, if used, always, or never print.
If the program transferred the preferences and settings that you used with last year's ProSeries program, then the Control Which Forms Print settings for the Client Copy and Preparer Copy options are set the way they were set in last year's program. However, the Control Which Forms Print settings for the Filing Copy are not transferred from last year's ProSeries program.
To control the printing of forms in client returns:
- On the File menu, select Print Options.
- In the Print Center dialog box, select Control Which Forms Print.
- Select the type of return to modify. Note: There are columns for Filing Copy, Client Copy, and Preparer Copy.
- Click the [+] control that precedes the heading for a collapsed section to expand that section if you want to see all the items for that section. Conversely, click the [-] control that precedes the heading for an expanded section to collapse that section if you do not want to see the items for that section.
- To expand all sections, click the Expand All button. To collapse all sections, click the Collapse All button.
- To change the print condition for an item, select the field on the row in the applicable column (Filing Copy, Client Copy, or Preparer Copy), then select the print condition that you want from the list of available alternatives.
- For most items that are listed in the dialog box, you can select If Required, If Any Data, or Never. You cannot change the print condition for some forms, such as the main signature form for a return.
- If you want to change the form print conditions for items in any other type of return, repeat steps 3 through 6.
- Click OK when finished.
Options
- If Required: Select If Required if you want the form to print if it is part of the return.
- If Used: Select If Used if you want the worksheet to print if it is part of the return.
- If Any Data: Select If Any Data if you want the form or worksheet to print if it contains any data regardless of whether it is part of the return.
- Never: Select Never if you never want the form to be printed, even if it is part of a client's return and contains data. If you use the Never condition, make sure printed tax returns that are being submitted to the IRS or a state agency contain all the necessary forms, schedules, and worksheets.
Note: The Control Which Forms Print feature is not available in ProSeries Basic Edition.
