Situation

When attempting to create or print a PDF file in your prior year 2006 ProSeries software, you receive the error message: "Printer not activated, error code -30." This may occur after you install the head start release, the first version for 2007, which was released in November.

Note: If you use ProSeries Document Management System (DMS) you will not be able to create PDF files from tax year 2006 ProSeries to add to DMS. Using DMS to retrieve or view PDF files is not affected by this situation.

Solution

This situation is corrected in an update that became available online on November 29, 2007. Download and install this update if you have not already done so. (Go to the Update menu and choose Update Installed Products.)

Workaround (prior to update)

If you are unable to wait for the update that corrects this situation, follow the steps below to enable printing of PDF files in your prior year 2006 ProSeries software.

1. Close your ProSeries software.
2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to X:\ProWin06\32bit\PDFDrvr (where X represents the letter for the drive where your 2006 ProSeries software is installed).
3. Double-click the PSInstall file. The Amyuni printer driver (version 2.1) will be reinstalled.
4. Open your prior year 2006 ProSeries software. You should be able to print PDF files for your prior year 2006 clients.

If you want to print PDF files in your tax year 2007 ProSeries software, you will need to re-enable printing of PDF files in your tax year 2007 ProSeries software.

1. Close your ProSeries software.
2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to X:\ProWin07\32bit\PDFDrvr (where X represents the letter for the drive where your 2007 ProSeries software is installed).
3. Double-click the PSInstall file. The latest Amyuni printer driver (version 2.51) will be reinstalled.
4. Open your tax year 2007 ProSeries software. You should be able to print PDF files for your tax year 2007 clients.

• The workaround will not work on a computer running the Windows Vista operating system.
• ProSeries 2007 will not be tested on 64-bit workstations.
