ProSeries Frequently Asked Questions

Error Message: "ProSeries failed to license products due to an unexpected error. Please contact Technical Support. Error Code: 4 - 0."

Products Affected:

  • ProSeries
  • ProSeries Basic Edition


Try again to license your products online, follow these steps:

  1. In your ProSeries program, go to the Tools menu and choose License Products.
  2. In the dialog box, check the Online box if it is not already checked. Click OK.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you still get this error, follow these steps to repair the Entitlement Client:

  1. For ProSeries, navigate to C:\ProWin07\encl or C:\ProWin08\msi
    For ProSeries Basic, navigate to C:\BasWin07\encl.
  2. Double-click the application EntlClnt (or EntlClnt.msi).
  3. In the Welcome to EntlClnt Setup Wizard window, select Repair EntlClnt and click Finish.
  4. When the installation (repair) is complete, click Close.
  5. Relicense your products online by following steps 1 through 3 above.

If you still get this error, follow these steps to uninstall and reinstall the Entitlement Client:

  1. For ProSeries, navigate to C:\ProWin07\encl or C:\ProWin08\msi
    For ProSeries Basic, navigate to C:\BasWin07\encl.
  2. Double-click the application EntlClnt (or EntlClnt.msi).
  3. In the Welcome to EntlClnt Setup Wizard window, select Remove EntlClnt and click Finish.
  4. When the installation (uninstall) is complete, click Close.
  5. Double-click the application EntlClnt (or EntlClnt.msi) again.
  6. In the Welcome to EntlClnt Setup Wizard window, click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to install EntlClnt to your C drive.
  7. When the installation is complete, click Close.
  8. Relicense your products online by following steps 1 through 3 above.

If you still get this error, follow these steps to manually license your software:

  1. Call our Automated Customer Support at 800-723-0692.
  2. Press 1 to use our automated licensing system to license your ProSeries products. You will need to enter your Customer Number and Sold To Zip Code. (If you don't have your sold to Zip Code, try your main Zip Code.)
  3. Follow the voice instructions and write down your license/activation code when it is given to you.
  4. In your ProSeries program, go to the Tools menu and choose License Products.
  5. In the dialog box, check the Manual box and click OK.
  6. Enter your firm information and the activation code you were given. Click OK.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you are still having problems licensing your 2007 or 2008 ProSeries products, please contact customer service.
