How do I download and install products and updates?

Products Affected:

  • ProSeries
  • ProSeries Basic Edition

There are several ways you can download and install ProSeries tax products and updates:

Downloading new products from within ProSeries using the Update menu

  1. In ProSeries go to the Update menu and choose Select and Download New Products.
  2. In the ...Product Selections dialog box, select the products that you want (if they are not already selected), then click Next. (Products you previously selected are still selected, even if they are already installed.)
  3. ProSeries will connect to an Intuit Internet server and check for available products and updates. If any are found, ProSeries will begin the download process. The Update dialog box shows the status of your download. When this dialog box displays the message Ready to Install, click Install Now.
  4. If you see the ProSeries Installation note dialog box, click OK.
  5. When the download process is complete, the Update dialog box will show the status of your requested products. Click Read the latest Critical Product Information to view the latest newsletter. Click Close to complete the install. ProSeries will restart.

Updating installed products from within ProSeries using the Update menu

  1. In ProSeries, go to the Update menu and choose Update Installed Products.
  2. ProSeries will connect to an Intuit Internet server and check for available updates. If updates are found, ProSeries will begin the download process. The Update dialog box shows the status of your download. When this dialog box displays the message Ready to Install, click Install Now.
  3. If you see the ProSeries Installation note dialog box, click OK.
  4. When the download process is complete, the Update dialog box will show the status of your requested products. Click Read the latest Critical Product Information to view the latest newsletter. Click Close to complete the install. ProSeries will restart.

Downloading from within ProSeries using the Task Scheduler (The Task Scheduler is not in the Basic Edition.)

  1. Go to the Update menu and point to Schedule Automatic Updates (Task Scheduler). On the submenu, Automatically Check for Updates is checked if Task Scheduler is turned on and unchecked if Task Scheduler is turned off. Select Automatically Check for Updates to reverse this state.
  2. If you want to modify the Task Scheduler schedule, go to the Update menu, point to Schedule Automatic Updates (Task Scheduler), and select click Modify Schedule. Choose the Start Time and the Days of the Week that you want Task Scheduler to perform the tasks you've selected, then click OK.
  3. To view a list of Task Scheduler activities, go to the Update menu, point to Schedule Automatic Updates (Task Scheduler) , and select View Update Activity.

    Note: For Task Scheduler to run at the selected time, you must leave your computer running. If your computer is turned off at the designated time, Task Scheduler will notify you the next time you start your computer.

Downloading from ProSeries.com (manual download and installation)

ProSeries manual downloads are available on ProSeries.com from within My ProSeries and the ProSeries Store.

From My ProSeries (for products you have already purchased)

Note:
Close any ProSeries products you may have running before you begin the download process.

  1. On ProSeries.com, click My ProSeries on the top navigation and login to My ProSeries.
  2. Under Product Information , click Download Products.
  3. Select the appropriate Tax Year and Tax Product Family to see a list of products that are available for download.
  4. From the list of products, click Download for the product you want to download.
  5. In the File Download dialog box, when asked "Do you want to run or save this file?" we recommend that you click Save.
  6. In the Save As dialog box, save the file to your computer's hard drive. Be sure to note the file name so you can identify it when the download is complete. (We suggest that you save it to a temporary directory such as C:\Temp or to your Windows Desktop.)
  7. If the Download Complete dialog box displays, click Open to unpack the file and begin the installation process. If this dialog box does not display, locate the saved file and double-click on it.
  8. The ProSeries installation utility will start. In the Welcome dialog box, review the information and click Next.
  9. In the Software License Agreement dialog box, read the ProSeries License Agreement, then click I accept the terms of the license agreement if you agree to accept all the terms of the software license agreement, then click Next . (Click I do not accept the terms of the license agreement to discontinue the installation.)
  10. In the Select an Installation Type dialog box, select Stand Alone, then click Next. (This dialog box will only display during your initial installation.)
  11. In the Select Destination Directory dialog box, click Next to accept the default destination. (If you are installing to a drive other than C, click the Browse button and select the drive.)
  12. In the ...Product Selections dialog box, select all the products that you plan to use and click Next.
  13. In the Installation Note dialog box, review the list of products that will be installed later, then click OK.
  14. In the Installation Details dialog box, review your selections and the Available Space information. Click Next to continue or Back to change your selections.
  15. When the installation process is completed the Setup Complete dialog box displays. If you want to continue with the ProSeries setup, verify that the Launch ProSeries box is checked, and click Finish. (If you do not want to proceed with the setup at this time, uncheck the Launch ProSeries check box and click Finish.)
  16. The Connected Customer dialog box will display and perform the following tasks: initialize connection, license products, and import your firm information. When the tasks are complete, click Next to continue.
  17. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.

Note: If a Restart Windows message appears, restart your computer to update the Windows system files before you use your ProSeries tax software.

From the ProSeries Store (for products you want to purchase online)

Note:
Close any ProSeries products you may have running before you begin the download process.

  1. On ProSeries.com, click the Learn More button for the type of product you wish to purchase - ProSeries or ProSeries Basic Edition.
  2. Review the product information and click the Add to Cart button. For some products you may need to call our sales team at the telephone number on the page.
  3. After clicking the Order button, review your order in your shopping cart and click the Checkout button.
  4. Continue through the order process by following the on-screen instructions.
  5. If the download for the product you ordered is available, follow the steps listed above in the My ProSeries section, beginning with step four. (go to step four)
