Client returns prepared in Intuit's consumer products, TurboTax or TurboTax for Mac, can be transferred to ProSeries/1040 and ProSeries Basic/1040 for the same tax year.

The following instructions assume that your client gives you their TurboTax or TurboTax for Mac file on a floppy disk, CD or flash drive.

To transfer from TurboTax 1040 to ProSeries 1040 follow these steps:

1. Start ProSeries 1040 and insert the client's floppy disk, CD or flash drive into the appropriate drive on your computer.
2. In HomeBase, go to the File menu, choose Transfer, then choose Transfer Clients.
3. On the Select the type of file to transfer drop-down list, select 2007 TurboTax 1040 to 2007 ProSeries 1040.
4. On the Transfer data files from line, click the Browse button.
5. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, navigate to the appropriate drive where the tax return is stored and click OK.
6. On the Transfer data files to line, verify that the drive and path are correct. If necessary, make changes.
7. Highlight the client's TurboTax file (example: smith.tax) and click Transfer.
8. The Transfer Log dialog box will appear on the screen. Verify that the transfer was successful and click Close.
9. At HomeBase, highlight the transferred ProSeries file and click Open and Save the return. The transferred ProSeries file will have the appropriate file extension. (Example: smith.tax becomes smith.XXi, where XX is the last two digits of the tax year.)

To transfer from TurboTax 1040 for Mac to ProSeries 1040 follow these steps:

1. The TurboTax for Mac client file must have a valid DOS file name (up to eight characters plus a three character extension, such as smith.tax).

   Note: The DOS file extension must be .TAX.

2. Store the file on a removable media (such as a floppy disk, CD, or flash drive).
3. TurboTax for Mac uses the same transfer process as TurboTax. Therefore, follow the appropriate transfer instructions above.

Notes

• You cannot transfer prior year TurboTax or TurboTax for Mac client files to the current year ProSeries 1040. Prior year TurboTax or TurboTax for Mac client files can be transferred to the prior year ProSeries 1040, saved in the prior year ProSeries 1040, then transferred from the prior year ProSeries 1040 to the current year ProSeries 1040. (Example: 2006 TurboTax to 2006 ProSeries 1040 to 2007 ProSeries 1040.)
• Alternatively, prior year TurboTax or TurboTax for Mac client files can be transferred to this year's TurboTax 1040, saved in this year's TurboTax 1040, then transferred from this year's TurboTax 1040 to this year's ProSeries 1040. (Example: 2006 TurboTax to 2007 TurboTax 1040 to 2007 ProSeries 1040.)
• File names are not changed when transferring 2007 TurboTax to 2008 ProSeries (If the file was 2007 XXXXXX it will transfer as 2007 XXXXXX with the file extension of .08i).
