Download and Install Product Updates
Reminder, it is important that you keep your ProSeries
software updated.
The fastest and easiest way to get the latest updates is
from the Update menu within the ProSeries software.
In ProSeries,
go to the Update menu and choose Update Installed

other customers have asked and find answers on the
Live Community.
TIP: You can customize what questions are displayed
on the screen. Click All Questions, Answered Questions
or Unanswered Questions to filter what questions are displayed.
You can sort these questions by Date, Popularity or Latest
Activity. For example, to view the most popular answered
questions, click Answered Questions and Popularity.

Installing ProSeries Software on a New Computer
When you purchase a new computer, you will need to install
the ProSeries software on the new computer and then copy
your client files from the old computer to the new computer.
ProSeries does not support moving or copying the ProSeries
software to a new computer.

- IRS QuickAlert: Individual Filers - Important message about computing the Recovery Rebate Credit
On February 8, 2009, the IRS sent out the following QuickAlert:
"...Important message about computing the Recovery Rebate
Credit - Key Message - The only way to avoid a delay in
taxpayers' refunds is to put the correct amount on the
appropriate Recovery Rebate Credit line for Forms 1040,
1040A or 1040EZ. Any other choice, either an incorrect
amount, leaving the Recovery Rebate Credit line blank
or entering a zero (unless that is the correct amount)
will guarantee a refund delay..." View

- IRS QuickAlert: Individual Filers - IRS offers Tips to Avoid Recovery Rebate Credit Confusion
On February 2, 2009, the IRS sent out the following QuickAlert:
"...Please see the latest news
release (IR-2009)-10 issued on January 30, 2009. IRS offers
Tips to Avoid Recovery Rebate Credit Confusion. The news
release provides tips on how to avoid confusion on the
recovery rebate credit. Knowing the amount of your client's
2008 stimulus payment is the key to getting the recovery
rebate credit right. There are three ways individuals
can find out how much they received- See Notice 1378 mailed
last year, Go to How Much Was My Stimulus Payment? on
IRS.gov or call 1-866-234-2942. As the IRS detects and
corrects return errors concerning the recovery rebate
credit it could affect the refunds for those returns.
Refund delays are currently no longer than about one week..."

Highlights of 2008 Tax Law Changes: Tax Breaks Renewed, Recovery Rebate Credit, Homeowner Relief
In January 2009, the IRS issued FS-2009-1, highlighting
2008 tax law changes. "AMT exemptions rise; several
expiring deductions and credits get a new lease on life;
a new standard property tax deduction and a special first-time
homebuyer credit are available to some homeowners; and
retirement savings incentives expand. These are among
the changes taxpayers will find when they fill out their
2008 tax returns. More information about these and other

in various IRS documents, including the Instructions for

E-File Status Lookup Feature
Reminder, you can view the status of your e-file returns
online. Login to your My ProSeries account and click Client
E-File Status on the My ProSeries overview page. To
view the status of your electronically filed returns,
simply select the filter criteria, then click the Submit
button.

District of Columbia Increases Earned Income Tax Credit
On February 6, 2009, the District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue issued a release regarding an increase in the District’s Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The District’s EITC has been increased from 35 percent to 40 percent of the federal credit.

Delaware, Illinois, New York and Rhode Island

Taxpayers in Four States File with Different Centers this
Year
On January 21, 2009, the IRS issued News Release IR-2009-7,
announcing that taxpayers in Delaware, Illinois, New York
and Rhode Island who file paper income tax returns will
send them to different processing centers this year. Taxpayers
in Delaware, New York and Rhode Island will now send their
tax returns to the IRS Kansas City Service Center in Kansas
City, Mo. Taxpayers in Illinois will now send their tax
returns to the IRS Fresno Service Center, in Fresno, Calif.
