  • For Many Investors, Year-End Forms to Arrive Later
On January 30, 2009, the IRS issued News Release IR-2009-11, announcing that many investors will receive their year-end tax statements later than in past years, but these forms are likely to be more accurate. A new law, enacted last fall, changed the deadline from Jan. 31 to Feb. 15, when brokers, including brokerage firms, mutual fund companies and barter exchanges, must furnish year-end Forms 1099-B to their customers. Where a broker furnishes these forms by mail, this means that the forms must be mailed, not received by that date. For more information, please visit the IRS Web site.

  • SBBT Notice: IRS Funding Delays for RTs
On January 29, 2009, SBBT issued the following notice: "For this first funding cycle, we have posted all accounts that will be funded by the IRS on Friday. We are seeing an unprecedented amount of accounts that did not fund on the expected funding date for this week. Most of the unfunded accounts are ones that have a Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) as part of the refund, and we assume they will be verified and adjusted to be paid out next week according to the IRS. But there are a large number of refunds without that attribute that have not been paid as expected. Please inform these clients to be patient with the IRS and check back next Friday as that will be the earliest we will see another deposit..." View SBBT Notice
