March 16 - Important S Corporation and Corporation Filing Deadline

Reminder, the filing deadline for 2008 calendar year corporation tax returns (Forms 1120, 1120A, and 1120S), or to request an automatic 6-month extension of time to file (Form 7004) is March 16, 2009.

Generally, corporations must file by the 15th day of the 3rd month after the end of its tax year. If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the corporation can file on the next business day.

    User guides for ProSeries business tax software can be found in the Help Center. Open a federal business tax return, from the Help menu, select Help Center. In the side bar, under Tax Return Help, click How To Use ProSeries... to open the user guide for that return type.

  • Daylight Saving Time (DST)
    Reminder, Daylight Saving Time (DST) in much of the United States and Canada begins on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November. Some ProSeries functions and services may use your computer system clock. If your computer system clock is not correct, time dependent events and information may be reported incorrectly.

  • IRS Releases Information to Help Employers Claim COBRA Medical Coverage Credit on Payroll Tax Form
    On February 26, 2009, the IRS issued News Release IR-2009-15, announcing new detailed information that will help employers claim credit for the COBRA medical premiums they pay for their former employees. For more information, please visit the IRS Web site.

  • Deadlines for Retransmitting Rejected Corporation Returns
    The deadline for 2008 calendar year corporation tax returns (Forms 1120, 1120A, and 1120S), or to request an automatic 6-month extension of time to file (Form 7004) is March 16, 2009. Federal corporation electronically filed returns that are timely filed and rejected can be corrected and retransmitted by the later of the due date of the return or 20 calendar days from the date the rejection was issued by the IRS.
