CRITICAL ALERTS!

Important Information about Printing PDF Files
When attempting to create or print a PDF file in your prior year 2006 ProSeries software, you receive the error message: "Printer not activated, error code -30." This may occur after you install the head start release, the first version for 2007, which was released this month.

Our development team is diligently working to resolve this issue. We will keep you up to date on our progress. Learn more

Important Information about ProSeries Unlimited E-File for Federal 1040 and States - Re-licensing May Be Required
If you purchased the tax year 2007 Unlimited E-File product for Federal 1040 and States, and installed your software on or before November 17, 2007, please re-license your software. Due to an error in our licensing system, which was corrected on November 17, 2007, we are requesting that you follow the steps below to re-license your tax year 2007 products. This will ensure that you have the correct licenses available to you.

  1. Open your tax year 2007 ProSeries software.
  2. Go to the Tools menu and select License Products.
  3. In the License Products dialog box, select Online, if it is not already selected. Click OK.
  4. When the Verify Firm Information dialog box appears, select YES.
  5. When licensing is complete, click Close. Your tax year 2007 products should now be re-licensed.

ProSeries for Prior Tax Year 2006

  • ProSeries 2006 November Archive CD Available Upon Request
Each year, the ProSeries Archive CD is shipped to all customers prior to the April 15th filing deadline. The reason for this is that some of our customers prefer not to receive online updates, and we want them to have the latest updates prior to the extremely busy period at the end of the season. We made updates to a few formsets after the ProSeries Tax Year 2006 April Archive CD shipped. These updates are available online, but we understand it may be beneficial to have these updates in CD format. Therefore, these updates are available on the ProSeries Tax Year 2006 November Archive CD. This CD is available upon request. Learn more

ProSeries/Client Organizer and ProSeries/1040
  • ProSeries Head Start Release
The initial version of the tax year 2007 ProSeries software includes the following:
    • Client Organizer - use either the short version, long version, or customize your own version of Client Organizer. Mail organizers to your 1040 customers so you can learn detailed information about what has changed for tax year 2007.
    • ProSeries/1040 draft forms - we encourage you to familiarize yourself with the latest 1040 forms that have been updated due to tax law changes or feedback we've received from you. Pay particular attention to forms and worksheets such as Form 8283, Schedule D, Form 1098-T, Multiple Lot worksheet (formerly called Cost Basis worksheet), Employer Stock Transaction worksheet, and new forms such as Form 8917 (Tuition and Fees Deductions) and Form 8919 (Uncollected Social Security and Medical Care Tax on Wages).
    • Client Checklist - this new solution, which is an alternative to Client Organizer, is designed for 1040 clients who typically don't complete an organizer. This solution creates a customized list of all the documents and data your client needs to collect and bring in. You can e-mail or mail a client checklist to all of your returning 1040 clients. The new Client Checklist is available to all 1040 Unlimited, PowerTax, and PowerTax Lite customers.

Note: You can NOT use the draft 1040 program to file tax year 2007 tax returns - wait for the next 1040 which we anticipate will be available online in mid-December.

ProSeries/1040 and ProSeries Basic/1040

  • TIP: Easier Entry for Noncash Contributions on Schedule A
A new Noncash Contributions Smart Worksheet will be added to Schedule A. This Smart Worksheet will accept an unlimited number of entries for noncash contributions right on Schedule A. Entering directly on the Noncash Contributions Smart Worksheet will result in the automatic generation of a Form 8283 when necessary. Most noncash contributions will only require an entry on the new Noncash Contributions Smart Worksheet. A few noncash contributions may require entry of some additional information not contained in the Smart Worksheet on Schedule A. To enter any necessary additional information for a noncash contribution, double-click on the name of the charity to access the Noncash Contributions Worksheet where additional information not contained in the Noncash Smart Worksheet on Schedule A can be entered.
