  • Victims of Floods, Storms and Tornadoes In Six States Now Have Until August 29 to File Certain Returns
    On July 14 2008, the IRS issued News Release IR-2008-89, announcing that it is postponing until August 29 the time to file certain tax returns, to make certain tax payments and to perform time-sensitive acts for storm, flood, and tornado victims in presidential disaster areas in six states, mostly in the Midwest.   • Scammers Use e-Mail, Fax to Pose as IRS
    On July 10 2008, the IRS issued News Release IR-2008-88, cautioning taxpayers to be on the lookout for a new wave of scams using the IRS name in identity theft e-mails, or phishing, that have circulated during the last two months. In May and June alone, taxpayers reported almost 700 separate phishing incidents to the IRS. In 2008 so far, taxpayers have reported about 1,600 phishing incidents to the IRS.     Reminder, it is very important that your IRS e-file Application or Form 8633, Application to Participate in the IRS e-file Program, has up-to-date information. You can revise your application or Form 8633 on the IRS Web site.

Montana Individual
  • Montana Allows Certain Tips to Be Excluded from Taxed Income
    Certain tip income may be excluded from taxed income in Montana. The program does not include a diagnostic alerting users that certain tip income may be excluded from taxed income in Montana.

    The Montana Individual program pulls tips from federal Form 4137, line 2, Total cash and charge tips received in 2007, to Montana Form 2, Schedule II, Montana Subtractions from Federal AGI, line 14, Exemption for Certain Taxed Tips and Gratuities. (This includes tips from Form W-2, Box 7, Social Security Tips, Box 8, Allocated Tips, and Part III, Unreported Tip Income.) Manually reduce the amount on Montana Form 2, Schedule II, line 14 by any tip amounts that are not related to food, beverages or lodging. Learn more
