In some instances, Connecticut Form CT-1040X, Amended Income Tax Return for Individuals, prints the filing status incorrectly. The filing status is correct on the screen for both the original Form CT-1040 and Form CT-1040X.
This affects Form CT-1040X returns where the filing status is civil union filing jointly, married filing separately, civil union filing separately, or head of household. Below are the filing statuses that print incorrectly and the workarounds:
Civil Union Filing Jointly
When the filing status is civil union filing jointly on the original Form CT-1040 and Form CT-1040X it displays correctly on the screen, but prints as married filing separately.
On Form CT-1040X, temporarily check the Civil union filing separate box and print Form CT-1040X. Civil union filing jointly will be checked on the printed Form CT-1040X.
Married Filing Separately
When the filing status is married filing separately on the original Form CT-1040 and Form CT-1040X it displays correctly on the screen, but prints as head of household.
On Form CT-1040X, temporarily check the Civil union filing jointly box and print Form CT-1040X. Married filing separately will be checked on the printed Form CT-1040X.
Civil Union Filing Separately
When the filing status is civil union filing separately on the original Form CT-1040 and Form CT-1040X it displays correctly on the screen, but prints as civil union filing jointly.
On Form CT-1040X, temporarily check the Head of household box and print Form CT-1040X. Civil union filing separately will be checked on the printed Form CT-1040X.
Head of Household
When the filing status is head of household on the original Form CT-1040 and Form CT-1040X it displays correctly on the screen, but prints as civil union filing separately.
On Form CT-1040X, temporarily check the Married filing separately box and print Form CT-1040X. Head of household will be checked on the printed Form CT-1040X.
