Tips to Improve Image Quality of Scanned Source Documents

Products Affected:

Print

After reviewing the source documents that were submitted from some customers, we would like to provide two recommendations for improving the quality of your scans.

Fax Images

Did you know that most fax software and fax machines scan information at less than 300 dots per inch (dpi) (our suggested dpi for scanning information in SDAE)? This is done to reduce the size of the communication across phone lines. However, it does impact the ability of other programs to import the data that is sent in a fax. For example, rescanning or importing facsimiles into SDAE tends to generate readability concerns, and decrease the confidence of imported data.

Scanner Maintenance

Did you know that your scanner needs to be cleaned just like your printer? Overtime "gunk" can accumulate on the moving parts in a scanner in the same manner that they do in a printer. This accumulation of debris can produce poor quality scans that impact various programs you depend on to run your business, such as ProSeries Document Management System (DMS) and SDAE. We suggest that you regularly maintain your scanner as you would other office equipment. For more information, please refer to your scanner’s user guide to learn how to properly maintain your scanner.
