IRS Implements New E-File Specifications for Form 6765

• ProSeries/1040
• ProSeries Express/1040

Situation

On March 6, 2007, the IRS implemented new electronic filing specifications for Form 6765, Credit for Increasing Research Activities, Section B, however the ProSeries update containing these changes will not be released until later. For this reason, electronically filed federal Form 1040 returns and extensions containing Form 6765 may be rejected.

Solution

Hold all federal Form 1040 returns and extensions containing Form 6765 until the Federal 1040 update becomes available online.

We anticipate that the Federal 1040 update containing these changes will be available online on or about March 19, 2007. Download and install this update when it becomes available. (Go to the Update menu and select Update Installed Products.)

After installing this update, you can electronically file federal Form 1040 returns and extensions containing Form 6765.

Workaround (prior to update)

If you cannot wait for the update, paper file federal Form 1040 returns and extension containing Form 6765.
