Federal 1040 Error Reject Code 0742 and Form 3800

Situation

You may receive error reject code (ERC) 0742 when electronically filing a return with carryover credit, but no current year credits, and the amounts on Form 3800, General Business Credit, lines 8 and 13 are greater than zero, and Form 6251, Alternative Minimum Tax - Individuals, is not part of the return.

Solution

This situation is corrected in the Federal 1040 update that became available online on March 5, 2007. Download and install this update, if you have not already done so. (Go to the Update menu and select Update Installed Products.)

Workaround (prior to update)

Print the return, including Form 6251, and mail it to the IRS.
