Time Out Message When Updating ProSeries With a Dial-Up Connection and McAfee Products

Products Affected:

Print

Situation

When using a dial-up connection, the ProSeries Updater application starts, checks the connection, and begins downloading new products and updates. The download progress bar will stop after 100 seconds and you receive the error: "The connection with the server has timed out."

Sometimes this occurs because the McAfee Proxy Service is downloading the files instead of the ProSeries Updater application.

Workaround

Turn off the McAfee Proxy Service by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Windows Start menu and select Run.
  2. Type in services.msc and click OK. The Services control panel window will open.
  3. Double-click the entry for McAfee Proxy Service.
  4. In Startup type, select Disabled from the drop-down list.
  5. Click OK. Click OK again if you receive a warning about a dependency with McAfee Privacy Service.
  6. Restart Windows to restart McAfee and update ProSeries.
