IRS QuickAlert: Do Not Release e-Help Telephone Number to Taxpayers

On February 16, 2007, the IRS sent out the following QuickAlert: Do Not Release e-Help Telephone Number to Taxpayers

"ATTN: Authorized IRS e-file Providers/EROs. 
This is a reminder; the e-Help Desk telephone number is not for taxpayer inquiries. It is for authorized e-file providers only. Please do not give the number to your clients, this increases hold times and decreases the availability of assistors to answer your calls.  If your clients have inquiries about their tax return, direct them to the tax help line for individuals at 1-800-829-1040.
