Situation

On Form 1040, Schedule D, Capital Gains and Losses Smart Worksheet, transactions that include text entries in a date field default to short-term. Possible text entries include various, inherit, and expired.

Workaround

If short-term does not describe the transaction, enter L for long-term in the L/S column.
