On January 24, 2007, the IRS announced that "Taxpayers will have extra time to file and pay because April 15 falls on a Sunday in 2007, and the following day, Monday, April 16, is Emancipation Day, a legal holiday in the District of Columbia."
Note: Emancipation Day is not a federal holiday. IRS offices will be open on April 16, 2007.
As a result of this announcement, ProSeries will be releasing additional updates.
Federal Individual
ProSeries/1040, ProSeries Express/1040, and ProSeries Basic/1040 have been updated to handle the new filing deadline for Form 1040, Form 1040ES, and Form 2210 calculations. Also, the new due date is reflected in the ProSeries/1040 and ProSeries Express/1040 client letter and the ProSeries Basic/1040 filing instructions.
Download and install the Federal 1040 update that became available online on February 17, 2007, if you have not already done so. (Go to the Update menu and select Update Installed Products.)
Note: After installing an update, we recommend that you view the ReadMe Information in the Help Center to find out what items are addressed in that update.
Individual States
States with an April 15th deadline will decide whether to extend their tax deadline or keep their original due date. We expect most, but not all, states will conform to the IRS change. We are evaluating which individual states will need to be updated. We anticipate that individual state updates will become available online during the three weeks after February 16, 2007.
Federal Business
We are evaluating which ProSeries and ProSeries Express Edition business products will need to be updated for the new deadline. We are currently planning to update impacted products.
Note: The IRS and state taxing authorities will not be updating printed forms or instructions to reflect these changes. Please refer to the IRS and state Web sites for more information.
