ProSeries Frequently Asked Questions
Error Reject Code 151 or 156 and Form 5695
Products Affected: |
|
- ProSeries/1040
- ProSeries Express/1040
- ProSeries Basic/1040
Situation
You may receive the electronic filing error reject code (ERC) 151 or 156 when Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits, is part of the return. These reject codes are in reference to the number of forms included in the return as compared to the summary record received by the IRS.
Solution
This situation is corrected in the Federal 1040 update that became available online on February 8, 2007. Download and install this update, if you have not already done so. (Go to the Update menu and select Update Installed Products.)
Workaround (prior to update)
If you are electronically filing a federal and state return together, file them separately. See the notes below.
- Open the federal return.
- On the Federal Information Worksheet, uncheck the File state return electronically box.
- Save the return and run Final Review or Check for Errors. Fix any errors.
- Convert and transmit the federal return. This will send the federal return with Form 5695.
- Open the federal return, uncheck the File the federal return electronically box and check the File state return electronically box.
- Save the return and run Final Review or Check for Errors. Fix any errors.
- Convert and transmit the state return.
Notes
- You can open the Electronic Filing Information worksheet, go to Miscellaneous Electronic Filing Items, and check the box to force state only filing for all states selected to be filed electronically.
- Electronic filing of a state-only return is not available for Hawaii and Oklahoma. Either file these returns on paper or wait for the update.
- North Dakota and South Carolina only let you file your state return separately from your federal return once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS.
