When a Taxpayer is 19 Years of Age the Adverse Action Letter May Incorrectly Indicate That the Taxpayer is Under 18 Years of Age

Situation

ProSeries Express/1040 is incorrectly requiring a taxpayer to be at least 19 years of age on the return's preparation/transmission date in order to be eligible for a Refund Anticipation Loan (RAL).

If a taxpayer's date of birth is prior to <today's month and day> 1988, the RAL Adverse Action Letter may erroneously activate and indicate that the taxpayer is not 18 years of age or older.

Workaround

If a taxpayer is 18 years of age or older and the RAL Adverse Action Letter indicates that the taxpayer is not 18 years of age or older, follow these steps:

  1. Temporarily change the date of birth so the age is over 19 years of age.
  2. Print the RAL forms that you want the taxpayer to sign, such as the RAL Application and Agreement and RAL Truth-In-Lending  Disclosure Form.
  3. Change the date of birth back to the correct date.
  4. Fix all other errors and disable conversion error checking when converting/transmitting the return. (In the Electronic Filing Options dialog box, uncheck the Enable conversion error checking box and click OK.)

Note: This workaround cannot be used for RAL Advances.
