Situation

In ProSeries Basic/1040 (v2006.00) the standard client letter prints an unnecessary "Internal Revenue Service" after the City, State, ZIP code line of the Mail To address for Form 1040-ES vouchers if the taxpayer does not reside in Pennsylvania or Kentucky.

Note: If all your clients who make quarterly estimated tax payments live in Kentucky or Pennsylvania, this situation doesn't affect you.

Solution

This situation is corrected in update (v2006.01) now available online. Download and install this update. (Go to the Update menu and select Update Installed Products.)

After installing the update, follow these steps:

  1. Start Windows Explorer.
  2. Locate the \BasWin06\Common folder.
  3. Select the fdiltr.ltr file, click the right mouse button, then select the Copy command from the pop-up menu.
  4. Select the \BasWin06 folder, click the right mouse button, then select the Paste command from the pop-up menu.
  5. Select the fdiltr.ltr file in the BasWin06 folder, click the right mouse button, then select the Rename command from the pop-up menu.
  6. Rename the file fdiltr.rtf. In the Rename dialog box, select Yes.
  7. Select the fdiltr.rtf file in the BasWin06 folder, click the right mouse button, then select the Copy command from the pop-up menu.
  8. Select the \BasWin06\Common folder, click the right mouse button, then select the Paste command from the pop-up menu.
  9. In the Confirm File Replacement dialog box, select Yes. This should eliminate the unnecessary "Internal Revenue Service" line.

Note: The program will replace the previous version of the standard client letter for Form 1040 returns with the current version of the standard client letter for Form 1040 returns.
