ProSeries Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the Gross Social Security/Railroad Retirement Benefits Amount on Form 1040, Line 20a?

Products Affected:

Print

The gross social security and railroad retirement benefits are now always required to be reported on Form 1040, line 20a, whether or not there is a taxable amount.

In 2006 ProSeries/1040, ProSeries Express/1040, or ProSeries Basic/1040 enter this amount on the Social Security Benefits Worksheet and it will flow to Form 1040, U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. (Do not enter this amount directly on Form 1040, line 20a.)

Additional Information

For more information about changes to forms and worksheets, open a 1040 return, go to the Help menu, choose Help Center, select What's New This Year?, scroll down to the bottom, then click the link for New Forms and calculations.
