Solutions

Create a Custom Client Letter:

Note: When you create a custom client letter, that letter only applies to the current client file. To create a customized letter that applies to all clients, edit the standard client letter.

  1. Open a client's return.
  2. Go to the Tools menu, point to Letters, and select Edit Client Letter.
  3. Select Custom Client Letter and click Edit. This starts the Letter Editor.
  4. In the Letter Editor, customize the letter by adding or deleting codes and paragraphs of information.
    • The federal and state codes and paragraphs codes are located in the tabs on the right side of the screen.
    • The codes in the letter display in a blue or green font.
    • Static text that you can retype displays in a black font.
    • For more information on editing the letter, go to the Help menu and select Letter Help.
  5. When you are finished editing the letter, go to the File menu and select Save Custom Client Letter.

Print the Standard Client letter:

  1. Open the client and go to the File menu and select Print.
  2. On the left under Print Functions, select Print Selected Forms.
  3. On the right, select Letters Only and check the box for Standard and uncheck the box for Custom.
  4. Click Print.
Note: You can edit the text and layout of the standard client letter. These changes will apply to all returns that use the standard client letter. To edit the standard client letter, follow the instructions below and choose Standard Client Letter instead of Custom Client Letter.
