ProSeries Frequently Asked Questions

Error Message: "ProSeries Express Edition is installed on this computer and is not compatible with this version."

Situation

The error "ProSeries Express Edition is installed on this computer and is not compatible with this version" may occur if you attempt to install a federal business program manually downloaded from My ProSeries instead of within the ProSeries Express program.

Note: You will receive the same error message if you attempt to install ProSeries/Client Organizer and ProSeries Express. In this situation see Can I use ProSeries/Client Organizer with ProSeries Express/1040?

Solution

If you need to install a federal business program in ProSeries Express, install it from a ProSeries Express CD or download and install the product from within ProSeries Express.

To download and install federal business programs from within ProSeries Express:

1. Install a version of  ProSeries Express/1040 for 2006 using one of the following methods:
   • Download and install the 2006 ProSeries Express/1040 software from within 2005 ProSeries Express software. (Go to the Help menu and select Download Next Year's ProSeries Express Product.)
   • Manually download the ProSeries Express/1040 software from My ProSeries and install it.
2. In 2006 ProSeries Express, go to the Update menu and choose Select and Download New Products.
3. In the Tax Year 2006 Product Selections dialog box, select the products that you want (if they are not already selected), then click Next. (Products you previously selected are still selected, even if they are already installed.)
4. The Update dialog box shows the status of your download. When this dialog box displays the message Ready to Install, click Install Now.
5. If you see the ProSeries Installation note dialog box, click OK.
6. ProSeries will connect to an Intuit Internet server and check for available updates. If updates are found, ProSeries will begin the download process.
7. When the download process is complete, you will be prompted to install any updates. We recommend that you install these updates by clicking the Install button.
8. The Update dialog box will show the status of your requested products. Click Details to review the new product and update details or click Close to complete the install. ProSeries will restart.
