What is the new Access Rights feature?
The new ProSeries and ProSeries Express Access Rights feature allows a firm
owner to assign a role to each employee. Then, based on the roles, access
is allowed to only some areas in the ProSeries software. When using Access
Rights, each employee needs to be set up with a role, user name, and password
in order to open the ProSeries or ProSeries Express software.
The pre-defined roles are Administrator, Power User, Tax Preparer, and Data
Entry. The areas of access are Client File Maintenance, E-File/Bank Products,
Firm Specific Information, HomeBase, Print, Reports, Return Preparation, Tools,
and Updates/Install.
How do I enable or disable the Access Rights feature?
The first time you start the ProSeries 2006 program after installing the
software, the Access Rights Wizard requires that you indicate whether you
want to enable the ProSeries Access Rights feature.
- Enable. If you choose to enable the ProSeries
Access Rights feature, you then begin to set up the feature.
- Don't enable. If you choose not to enable
the ProSeries Access Rights feature, you can set up a user name and password
to help prevent others from enabling the feature in the future.
To enable or disable the Access Rights feature at a later time, go to the
Tools menu and select Access Rights.
For more information on setting up and using Access Rights, see:

What do I do if one of my administrators or staff forgets their Access
Rights login or password?
Any Access Rights administrator has the ability to reset the logins and passwords
of all other Access Rights users.
- An administrator should log in to ProSeries or ProSeries
Express.
- Go to the Tools menu, point to Access
Rights, and select Manage Users.
- Click Reset User Password and enter a new
temporary password for the user.
What do I do if all of my administrators forget their Access Rights
login or password?
- Print and complete the ProSeries
Access Rights Password / Master Password Reset Authorization Form.
- Fax or mail the completed form as indicated.
- Download and install the latest program updates, if you have
not already done so. (Go to the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, then point to your ProSeries product for 2006, and select ProSeries Update.)
- For the quickest response to your request:
- Wait at least 30 minutes after faxing the form, then call
ProSeries Customer Service at 800-374-7317.
- Please tell the ProSeries Customer Service agent that you want your
Access Rights reset and you recently faxed the form. Note: The
initial agent may need to transfer you to another Customer Service agent
who will locate the fax and perform the reset.
- If you do not call ProSeries Customer Service after faxing
the form, a Customer Service agent will contact you within 48 hours to reset
the user name or password.
