What is the new Access Rights feature?

The new ProSeries and ProSeries Express Access Rights feature allows a firm owner to assign a role to each employee. Then, based on the roles, access is allowed to only some areas in the ProSeries software. When using Access Rights, each employee needs to be set up with a role, user name, and password in order to open the ProSeries or ProSeries Express software.

The pre-defined roles are Administrator, Power User, Tax Preparer, and Data Entry. The areas of access are Client File Maintenance, E-File/Bank Products, Firm Specific Information, HomeBase, Print, Reports, Return Preparation, Tools, and Updates/Install.

How do I enable or disable the Access Rights feature?

The first time you start the ProSeries 2006 program after installing the software, the Access Rights Wizard requires that you indicate whether you want to enable the ProSeries Access Rights feature.

To enable or disable the Access Rights feature at a later time, go to the Tools menu and select Access Rights.

What do I do if one of my administrators or staff forgets their Access Rights login or password?

Any Access Rights administrator has the ability to reset the logins and passwords of all other Access Rights users.

  1. An administrator should log in to ProSeries or ProSeries Express.
  2. Go to the Tools menu, point to Access Rights, and select Manage Users.
  3. Click Reset User Password and enter a new temporary password for the user.

What do I do if all of my administrators forget their Access Rights login or password?

  1. Print and complete the ProSeries Access Rights Password / Master Password Reset Authorization Form.
  2. Fax or mail the completed form as indicated.
  3. Download and install the latest program updates, if you have not already done so. (Go to the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, then point to your ProSeries product for 2006, and select ProSeries Update.)
  4. For the quickest response to your request:
    1. Wait at least 30 minutes after faxing the form, then call ProSeries Customer Service at 800-374-7317.
    2. Please tell the ProSeries Customer Service agent that you want your Access Rights reset and you recently faxed the form. Note: The initial agent may need to transfer you to another Customer Service agent who will locate the fax and perform the reset.
  5. If you do not call ProSeries Customer Service after faxing the form, a Customer Service agent will contact you within 48 hours to reset the user name or password.
