User's Guide for Tax Year 2006

ProSeries Programs Installed From the Download

When you download ProSeries, ProSeries Express Edition or ProSeries Basic Edition the on-screen User's Guide is not included in the program, however each User's Guide is available online at www.proseries.com. Until you install the User's Guide from your CD, you can access it online through your browser or from within the program.

To access a User's Guide through your browser without opening the program, go to http://www.proseries.com/resources/user_guide/index.aspx and select the User's Guide you would like to view. 

To access an online User's Guide from within the program, click any User's Guide link in the program. When the "Connect to the Internet now?" dialog box appears, click Yes to direct the program to www.proseries.com. Click No to cancel.

If the program can't locate the User's Guide, one of the following dialog boxes may appear:

• "ProSeries was unable to locate the User's Guide. Select one of the options below to continue searching or click Cancel to cancel your request." - Click Browse to direct the program to your hard drive or network drive. (The User's Guide must be installed on that drive. The default folder it Guide.) Click Internet to direct the program to www.proseries.com. Click Cancel to cancel.
• "Insert the ProSeries CD in drive x. Then click OK when ready or click Cancel to cancel your request." - If you click Cancel, the Locate User's Guide dialog box appears so you can direct the ProSeries program to a CD, your hard drive or network drive, or www.proseries.com.

Notes:

• If the User's Guide has not been installed and you use the Search Help feature, it will not be able to include answers from the User's Guide in the search results.
• If the User's Guide has not been installed and you click on a link that goes to the guide you may get a "Page Not Found" error if the program is not able to connect to the Internet.

ProSeries Programs Installed From the CD

The on-screen User's Guide is available on the ProSeries CD. When you install ProSeries programs from the CD, the on-screen User's Guide is automatically installed on your computer's hard drive or a network drive. The installation utility will update the ProSeries User's Guide on your system if the version of the guide that's on the ProSeries CD is more recent than the version of the guide that's on your system.

Note: The version of the on-screen User's Guide that is included on the ProSeries Head Start CD and ProSeries Express Head Start CD is not the final version. If you use the Search Help feature and the answer you select in the search results links to the User's Guide it will take you to the first page of the guide, instead of the specific location of the answer. Enter your keywords in the search field in the guide.

This situation will be corrected in the CD expected to begin shipping in early January 2007. When you receive the CD, install and update the ProSeries software from the CD as you normally would.
