What's changed in the ProSeries system requirements for Tax Year 2006?

Important System Requirements Notes
- ProSeries will not support Windows NT, 98, and ME operating systems.
- ProSeries will not support Windows NT as a server operating system.
- ProSeries is not designed to run on Windows Vista operating system for Tax Year 2006.
- Tax Year 2006 is the last year ProSeries will support Novell NetWare as a server operating system.
- There are new ProSeries network system requirements for users with more than 3,000 records in HomeBase. View network system requirements for high volume customers.
Note: We cannot guarantee that ProSeries will run properly on operating systems we no longer support. ProSeries technical support will not be able to help customers solve problems on these operating systems in Tax Year 2006.
Changed Minimum Stand-Alone Requirements
- The minimum computer speed has increased to 500 MHz.
- The minimum memory (RAM) has increased to 256 MB.
- The minimum hard drive space has increased to 850 MB.
- The minimum supported operating system is Windows 2000 (Service Pack 3 or greater). Note: ProSeries will not support Windows NT, 98, and ME operating systems.
- The minimum printer has increased to an HP LaserJet or PCL printer with 2 MB of printer memory.
- The minimum CD/DVD drive speed has increased to 12X speed.
- The minimum Internet connection speed/type has increased to a 56.6K modem.
Changed Recommended Stand-Alone Requirements
- The recommended computer speed has increased to 2.0 GHz or faster.
- The only recommended operating system is Windows XP (Home or Professional edition). Note: ProSeries is not designed to run on Windows Vista operating system for Tax Year 2006.
- The recommended CD/DVD drive speed has increased to 24X or faster.
- The only recommended Internet connection speed/type is a high speed Internet connection, such as DSL, cable modem, or T-1.
Changed Minimum Network Requirements
- The minimum server operating system has increased to Windows XP (Home edition) or Novell NetWare (ver. 5.1, 6 or higher). Note: Tax Year 2006 is the last year Novell NetWare will be supported.
- Workstation system requirements are the same as those for stand-alone systems.
- The minimum network infrastructure have increased to a 100 MB connection environment (NICs, Cat V cabling and Hubs) or 54 MB wireless connection environment.
Changed Recommended Network Requirements
- The recommended server speed has increased to 2.0 GHz or faster.
- Workstation system requirements are the same as those for stand-alone systems.
