ProSeries Frequently Asked Questions

Republic Bank Software Cannot Process RALs Unless the ProSeries Default File Name is Used

Products Affected:

Print

Situation

Republic Bank software cannot process RALs if you do not save a client's tax return using the ProSeries default file name. (The default file name is the first four letters of the primary taxpayer’s last name and the last four numbers of their social security number. For example, if a taxpayer's name is John Smith and his social security number is 333-22-3443, the default name of that tax return is SMIT3443.)

Solution

An affected file name will need to be renamed to the ProSeries default file name.

Renaming a client file for a tax return that has NOT yet been transmitted for electronic filing

  1. In ProSeries, go to HomeBase and select the client file that you want to rename.
  2. Go to the File menu, choose Client File Maintenance, then choose Rename.
  3. In the Rename Client File dialog box, type the new file name. Be sure to use the ProSeries default file naming convention.
  4. Click the Rename client button.
  5. Now you can transmit the return for electronic filing, as you normally would.

Renaming a client file for a tax return that has already been transmitted for electronic filing

  1. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the C:\Prowin06\06ACKDAT folder for ProSeries, C:\Expwin06\06ACKDAT for ProSeries Express Edition, or C:\Baswin06\06ACKDAT for ProSeries Basic Edition. (Where C is the hard drive where ProSeries is installed.)
  2. Highlight the file name that you want to rename.
  3. Right-click on the file name and select Rename.
  4. For a federal only individual tax return, type the new file name using the default file naming convention and the .IFD file extension. (For example, if the taxpayer's name is John Smith and his social security number is 333-22-3443, the default file name is SMIT3443.IFD.)
  5. If the tax return includes a state tax return, you will need to rename the file using the default file naming convention and the appropriate state file extension. (The first letter of the state file extension is I and the last two letters are the state's two letter abbreviation. For example, if the taxpayer's name is John Smith, his social security number is 333-22-3443, and he filed a Kansas individual tax return the default file name for the Kansas state tax return is SMIT3443.IKS.)
  6. After the files are renamed, continue with the File Transfer using Republic Bank software. Please contact Republic Bank if you need help with the File Transfer.
