ProSeries Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a state?

Products Affected:

• ProSeries States
• ProSeries Express States
• ProSeries Basic States

The fastest and easiest way to add state products as soon as they are available is to download them from within the ProSeries program. Within the ProSeries program, you can use either the Update menu or Add State button.

Add State button

This method can only be used in ProSeries and ProSeries Express if more than one state has already been installed and in ProSeries Basic if at least one state has been installed:

1. Open a return.
2. ProSeries and ProSeries Express users go to the File menu and select Go to State/City. ProSeries Basic users click the State tab.
3. In the Go to State dialog box or Choose State dialog box, click the Add State button.
4. In the Tax Year 2006 Product Selections dialog box, select any additional state products that you want, then click Next. (Products you previously selected are still selected, even if they are already installed.)
5. The ProSeries Update dialog box displays the status of the download and installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Update menu

This method can be used no matter how many states have been installed or if no state has been installed:

1. Go to the Update menu and choose Select and Download New Products.
2. In the Tax Year 2006 Product Selections dialog box, select any additional state products that you want, then click Next. (Products you previously selected are still selected, even if they are already installed.)
3. The ProSeries Update dialog box displays the status of the download and installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the install process.

ProSeries CD

You can also install additional state products from your latest ProSeries CD:

1. Close ProSeries and insert the ProSeries CD into your CD drive. (Do not remove the CD from the drive until the installation is completed.)
2. When the installation dialog box appears, select Install ProSeries.
   If the dialog box does not appear automatically:
   1. Go to the Windows taskbar, click Start, then choose Run.
   2. Type X:\CDSETUP in the Run dialog box (where X represents the letter for the drive containing the ProSeries CD).
   3. Click OK.
3. In the Welcome dialog box, review the information and click Next.
4. The program will search for installed components. When the ProSeries 2006 dialog box appears, click Select Add'l Products.
5. In the Software License Agreement dialog box, read the software license agreement, then click I accept the terms of the license agreement if you agree to accept all the terms of the software license agreement, then click Next. (Click I do not accept the terms of the license agreement to discontinue the installation.)
6. In the Tax Year 2006 Product Selections dialog box, select any additional state products that you want, then click OK. (Products you previously selected are still selected, even if they are already installed.)
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the install process. 

My ProSeries

If you are unable to download state products from within the ProSeries program, you can download state products that you have already purchased from My ProSeries.
