The error "The debit date must be equal to the system date for returns filed after the due date." may occur when the payment date for electronic funds withdrawal (EFW), also known as direct debit, is after the due date. When electronically filing a return after the due date, the direct debit date should be the date the return is transmitted, not a later date.
The IRS or state taxing authority will process the direct debit on the date the return is processed. If the requested payment date is later than the processing date, the IRS may reject the return.
