Electronic Filing Deadlines for Individual Returns and Extensions

April 17th Deadline | October 15th Deadline
For the April 17th Deadline
- Timely returns or extensions must be transmitted to the Intuit Electronic Filing Center by midnight on April 17, 2007 in the ERO's time zone.
- Returns or extensions filed on or before April 17, 2007 and rejected are allowed 5 calendar days to retransmit. The last day to retransmit a timely filed return is April 22, 2007.
- The ERO is allowed 10 calendar days to paper file a timely submitted rejected return or extension. The ERO should print the reject notice and Intuit Electronic Postmark Report and submit these documents with the paper return.
- Returns or extensions DO NOT have to be Accepted by the IRS and/or states on April 17, 2007 to be considered timely filed. An electronic postmark is assigned a return when it is received by the Intuit Electronic Filing Center. This electronic postmark is the date the return or extension is considered filed. This electronic postmark is reported as the Return Submitted date and time displayed in the Intuit Electronic Postmark Report.
Print the Intuit Electronic Postmark Report
To print the Intuit Electronic Postmark Report:
- ProSeries - While in the HomeBase EF Center, go to the E-File menu, point to Electronic Filing and select Electronic Filing Reports. Select the Intuit Electronic Postmark Report from the list and click Print.
- ProSeries Express Edition - While in the HomeBase EF Clients tab, go to the Reports menu, point to Electronic Filing Reports and select View Reports. Select the Intuit Electronic Postmark Report from the list and click Print.
- ProSeries Basic Edition - While in the HomeBase EF Clients tab, go to the E-File menu, point to Electronic Filing and select Electronic Filing Reports. Select the Intuit Electronic Postmark Report from the list and click Print.
For the October 15th Deadline
- IMPORTANT: Returns on extension must be transmitted to the Intuit Electronic Filing Center by midnight on October 15, 2007 in the ERO's time zone.
- IMPORTANT: Only federal and state individual returns which were filed on or before October 15, 2007 and rejected may be retransmitted until 6:00 a.m. (Pacific Time) on October 20, 2007.
- IMPORTANT: The Intuit Electronic Filing Center will temporarily be unavailable due to network maintenance from 4:00 p.m. (PT) the evening of Sunday, October 21, 2007 until 4:00 a.m. (PT) the morning of Monday, October 22, 2007.
- IMPORTANT: EROs must receive all TY06 federal and state individual acknowledgments from the Intuit Electronic Filing Center by October 25, 2007. (Electronic filing of business returns will continue to be available until 6:00 p.m. (PT) on October 24, 2007 and will resume again on November 13, 2007.)
- IMPORTANT: The Intuit Electronic Filing Center will be closed October 26 - November 13, 2007 for annual upgrades and maintenance in preparation for the 2007 tax year. Be sure to receive all individual (1040) federal and state acknowledgments by October 25, 2007, as these will not be available when the Intuit Electronic Filing Center comes back online in November.
Important note about business e-file: E-file for partnership, corporate and S corporate returns will continue until 6:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) on October 24, 2007 and then resume again on November 13, 2007 when the Intuit Electronic Filing Center comes back online.
Important note about state returns: If your federal return has a state return attached (or you are filing a "State-Only" return) and it is rejected, you should correct and retransmit by October 17, 2007 to ensure that the state has time to return an acknowledgment before the IRS system closes state acknowledgment processing on October 22, 2007.
The Intuit Electronic Filing Center will continue to process retransmitted Fed/State and State-Only returns through 6 a.m. (Pacific Time) on October 20, 2007. However, Fed/State and State Only returns retransmitted after October 17, 2007 may not get acknowledged by the state in time to process and send acknowledgments back through the IRS.
For any state acknowledgments not received at the Intuit Electronic Filing Center by October 25, 2007, please contact the appropriate state taxing authority directly.
To ensure returns are considered timely filed for the October 15th deadline:
- Returns on extension DO NOT have to be Accepted by the IRS and/or states on October 15, 2007 to be considered timely filed.
