Client returns prepared in Intuit's consumer products, TurboTax or TurboTax for Mac, can be transferred to ProSeries/1040, ProSeries Express/1040, and ProSeries Basic/1040 for the same tax year.

The following instructions assume that your client gives you their TurboTax or TurboTax for Mac file on a floppy disk and A is your floppy disk drive. Substitute the appropriate drive for your system.

To transfer from TurboTax 1040 to ProSeries 1040 follow these steps:

  1. Start ProSeries 1040 and insert the client's floppy disk into drive A.
  2. In HomeBase, go to the File menu, choose Transfer or Transfer Prior Year, then choose Transfer Clients or Transfer Prior Year Clients.
  3. On the Select the type of file to transfer drop-down list, select 2006 TurboTax 1040 to 2006 ProSeries 1040.
  4. On the Transfer data files from line, click the Browse button.
  5. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, navigate to the tax return on your floppy drive and click OK.
  6. On the Transfer data files to line, verify that the drive and path are correct. If necessary, make changes.
  7. Highlight the client's TurboTax file (example: smith.tax) and click Transfer.
  8. The Transfer Log dialog box will appear on the screen. Verify that the transfer was successful and click Close.
  9. At HomeBase, highlight the transferred ProSeries file and click Open and Save the return. The transferred ProSeries file will have the appropriate file extension. (Example: smith.tax becomes smith.XXi, where XX is the last two digits of the tax year.)

To transfer from TurboTax 1040 for Mac to ProSeries 1040 follow these steps:

  1. The TurboTax for Mac client file must have a valid DOS file name (up to eight characters plus a three character extension, such as smith.tax).

Note: The DOS file extension must be .TAX.

  2. Store the file on a PC formatted floppy disk.
  3. TurboTax for Mac uses the same transfer process as TurboTax. Therefore, follow the appropriate transfer instructions above.
