ProSeries Frequently Asked Questions

Why does "DO NOT FILE" print on some forms?

Products Affected:

Print

When we release a ProSeries tax product, the official version of some of the forms included in the product may require updating by the IRS or relevant state taxing authority. The ProSeries program prints a DO NOT FILE watermark on these forms.

If the printed copy of a form includes a DO NOT FILE watermark, you cannot file returns that include that form until that form has been updated in a later release of the program.

Open the ReadMe file to view a list of forms that are not finalized in the version of the program you have installed.

To open ReadMe files for ProSeries products you have installed:

  1. From the Help menu, select Help Center.
  2. In the side bar, under Technical Support, double-click ReadMe Information.
  3. Select the appropriate ReadMe file.
  4. Scroll to the topic you want to view.

Examples:

For ProSeries/1040, select Form 1040: Individuals and click 1040 Forms that can't be filed yet.

For ProSeries/Colorado, select Colorado Individual and scroll to the Forms section.
