Tip: New Access Rights Feature

Products Affected:

Print

The new Access Rights feature allows you to selectively control who can open the ProSeries or ProSeries Express program, as well as decide what features and functions each user can access while using the software. For example, you might want to limit which users can electronically file returns or print bank product checks. Also, firm information can be protected by controlling which users can access billing-related features, change preparation fee, view bank information, delete client returns or print client lists.

After installing the software, the first time you start 2006 ProSeries or ProSeries Express the Access Rights Wizard requires that you indicate whether you want to enable the Access Rights feature.

Note: A user with the appropriate access rights can enable or disable the Access Rights feature in the future.

If a firm decides to use the Access Rights feature, an owner or manager generally chooses an Access Rights administrator. The Access Rights administrator sets up user names, temporary passwords, user roles, areas of access, and access items for each user who is authorized to use ProSeries or ProSeries Express. The first time a user starts ProSeries or ProSeries Express, they enter the user name and temporary password that was created by the Access Rights administrator. Next, the user enters a new password and password hint. Every time the user launches the program they will be required to enter their user name and password. They will not be able to open the program or use the features within the program without this information.

Important: You or your firm is responsible for remembering user names and passwords, you may find it helpful to write down this information and store it in a safe place.
