Using the Client Analyzer Feature

You can use the Client Analyzer feature to run queries that identify clients who might be affected by specific situations. For example, you can run a query for individual tax clients who have estimated tax payment vouchers in their federal return.

Most queries are installed when you first install the corresponding ProSeries product for individual returns, but your ProSeries program might receive new queries at a later date. New queries typically address retroactive tax laws and/or changes to specific tax calculations for a specific type of return. ProSeries will notify you of new available queries by e-mail and in-product in the Hot Topics area of the Help toolbar.

When you want to run a Client Analyzer query, take the following steps:

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Client Analyzer.
  2. The Client Analyzer Queries view has two parts - the Client Analyzer controls on the left side and the Client Analyzer results area on the right side. When the Client Analyzer Queries view appears, click in the 1) Select Return Type field near the top of the Client Analyzer controls to see a list of selections, then select the type of return that you are interested in.
  3. Go to the 2) Select Query area of the Client Analyzer controls, then review the list of queries that are available for the type of return that you selected. If you want to see more information about a query, click the blue, underlined phrase "More Info..." below the name of the query.
  4. After you locate a query that you want to run, click the Go button that is to the right of that query. When the program finishes running the query, a Client Analyzer dialog box indicates how many clients (if any) met the query criteria. Click the Close button to close this dialog box. The results of the query will display in the results area on the right side.

For example, assume you selected 1040 Individual as the return type. If you want to know which clients have a home office, locate the Office in Home query, then click the Go button for that query.

Note: The first time you run a Client Analyzer query it may take awhile to run if you have 600 or more client files. Subsequent queries should take less than a minute to run.

  5. If you want to print the information about the list of clients whose return met the query criteria, click the Print Clients button below the Select Query area on the left side of the Client Analyzer Queries view.
  6. If you want to open a client file that is listed in the Client Analyzer Queries view, double-click it.
  7. To close the HomeBase Client Analyzer Queries view, click the "X" on the right side of the Client Analyzer title bar.

More details and step-by-step instructions on using the Client Analyzer feature can be found in the ProSeries program:

  1. In the Search Help field, type client analyzer and press Enter.
  2. Review the search results and click the blue, underlined title for the Client Analyzer information you want to view.

Note: The Client Analyzer feature is not available in ProSeries Express Edition and ProSeries Basic Edition.
